With a crew of four, Jeff Bezos' space company Blue Origin sent its New Shepard spacecraft above the Kármán line. The CEO himself, accompanied by his brother Mark Bezos, 82-year-old Wally Funk and 18-year-old Oliver Daemen took a seat in the capsule.
The rocket lifted off at 09:12 EDT from Launch Site One in West Texas. The booster that already served on the previous two missions accelerated to a maximal ascent velocity of 2233 mph (3595 km/h). At T+02:21, the single BE-3 engine shut off, followed by the separation of the capsule. The booster reached an apogee of 347.188ft (105 km) AGL and 350.835 ft (106 km) MSL and the capusle went up to 347.563 ft (105 km) AGL and 351.210 ft (107 km) MSL. At T+07:23 the booster touched down on the landing pad, followed by the soft landing of capsule at T+10:19.
With this launch, Blue Origin hopes to begin a program that is designed to get hundreds of paying customers to space.
