After several weeks of assembly and preparation, SpaceX is finally lifting the catch and stack arms, usually called "chopsticks", onto the orbital launch and integration tower by the Liebherr 11350 crane. The chopsticks will be used to put both booster and ship onto the orbital launch mount and Elon Musk also plans to catch the booster and eventually also the upper stage (ship) by the arms.
NASA Spaceflight live commentary of the event:
With this addition, the launch and integration tower is nearing its completion. It is believed that all major harware would now be installed. The Quick disconnect arm as the other major system has been installed on 29 August 2021 with the extension added on 23 September 2021. The QD arm will fuel Starship (the upper stage) and stabilize the whole stack. The booster will be fuelled through a QD system on the orbital launch mount.
This latest addition to the orbital launch site is only one of many in the past few weeks. On Monday and Tuesday this week, the last two remaining cryo tank shells for the orbital tank farm have been rolled out and installed, together with one other huge tank. Although the necessary parts for an orbital flight attempt slowly come together, SpaceX will need to wait until the FAA approves the environmental assessment.
